Huntly Fall Heavily At Pittodrie

There were about 2000 spectators at Pittodrie yesterday afternoon when Aberdeen defeated Huntly in the second round of the Aberdeenshire Cup competition the mammoth score of 9 goals to 3. The disparity between the teams was early evident, and, although Aberdeen only led at the interval by a solitary goal obtained by Lees, the score flattered the visitors, who although putting up a plucky fight, were outplayed. On one occasion Gaul and Milton got through following a miss by the home defender, but they sent the ball too far ahead, allowing Anderson to clear. In the second half Aberdeen resorted to ornamental play, but, even so, goals came fast. Robertson increased the home lead, but, following a fine run and cross by Greig, McPherson scored a good goal for the visitors. After that Aberdeen went out to make sure, and further goals were added by Rankine (3), Lees, Wilson, Grant, and Macdonald. A few minutes from full time Aberdeen led 9-1, but in a closing rally and taking advantage of the easing down on the part of the home defence. Gall got two well taken goals for the visitors. The best of the Huntly team were Mailler, Walker, Maxwell, Greig, Gall, and McPherson, and in an Aberdeen team that was not stretched, those who took the eye most were Hannah, Lees. Robertson, Wilson, Grant, and Rankine.
